Unprecedented License Agreement with Paramount Pictures Enables Use of All Four Star Trek™ Properties in One Incredible Product

NEW YORK, NY--Newfield Publications announced today that it has executed a licensing agreement with Viacom Consumer Products, the licensing division of Paramount Pictures, that will enable it to manufacture and test market an oversized Star Trek™ Universe card series of unprecedented scope. The official Star Trek Universe giant card series from Newfield Publications will feature all four Star Trek television properties: Star Trek: The Original Series™, Star Trek: The Next Generation™, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine™ and Star Trek: Voyager™. The entire series in this ambitious project is envisioned to include more than 1,000 large format cards, which will provide an innovative synopsis of all things Star Trek. The 8”x10” cards will be merchandised exclusively via direct marketing channels along with specially designed storage binders.“Our goal with this product is to provide the most complete and unique collection of Star Trek facts, photos and inside information ever available to the fans of this incredible property,” said Steven Morvay, president of Newfield Publications, in making the announcement. “Paramount is providing access to every image ever seen in a Star Trek episode, and we will be tapping every available resource to achieve this goal.” Morvay indicated that the official Star Trek Universe giant cards will be test marketed directly to consumers as part of a mail order continuity program that will make several 10-card packs available each month. Newfield plans to begin testing this new product this spring, with the national release planned for early 1998.
